United Methodist Men (UMM)
The Men’s Fellowship of Marshville United Methodist Church meets the first Sunday of each month for a breakfast meeting. We meetin the Fellowship Hall of the Education Building at 8:00 a.m. Much of work supports ministry for youth and children and aids the projects of the Trustees of the church. It is our mission to increase in our Christian faith and in our pursuit of servant leadership. Special events are planned every three months. All men are welcome and invited. Come join us on the 1st Sunday of each month. For more information you can contact Contact Calvin Helms at 704-291-6737 or Pastor Sherri at 704-624-6562.
Choir
Marshville UMC has many opportunities for worship through music and the arts. Each week, our Adult Choir leads worship through a variety of musical styles. They are led by our choir director, Lauren Hill and supported by our accomplished and faithful organist, Elizabeth Walters. Sometimes our choir enjoys the company of other special guests: instrumentalists, dramatic players or adult hand bells.
In addition to our organist, our services are also accompanied by our pianist, Helen Phifer, who also leads our Men’s Chorus. They offer their talents for worship on every fifth Sunday, often singing traditional gospel favorites. For the little ones, we have a children’s hand bell choir and the youth sing contemporary Christian selections when they lead our worship services.
United Methodist Women (UMW)
The Golden Wesley Circle meets the first Monday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall except for the months of July and August (no meetings those months). The circle is open to all women of MUMC. Our members volunteer to lead a program one meeting per year and we have a wide variety of guests and topics. We try to make 2 “road trips” a year for mission related projects. At least once a year we travel to the Charlotte Urban Ministry to help serve lunch and drinks. This past year we made a trip to the Mission Response Center to help in assembling various items needed for emergencies world wide. We also have been fortunate enough to assist the United Methodist Men in some of their projects. To raise money, we sell cleaning clothes, flavoring and assorted knives. We have a wonderful group of “gals” and welcome all to our meetings. Come join us for a good hour of fellowship, learning and, of course, refreshments.
Adults
Marshville United Methodist Church offers a number of different opportunities for Adult Spiritual Formation. Here’s some information on various Sunday School classes. Check out the page on Bible Studies for our latest offerings.
Adult Sunday School Classes
Bill Walters Class
Teacher: Bill Walters
Members: Frederick and Frances Griffin, H.A. and Lucy Griffin, Temple and Blanche Hill, Jack & Linda McIver, Arlie and Elsie Baucom, Bill Phifer, Nell Presson, Doris Taylor, Jeff Barnes, Ned and Doris Beachum, Bruce and Myrtle Curlee, Hoover and Sarah Ross, Calvin and Diane Helms
Our class opens with joys and concerns of our members and others. Bill Walters, teacher, opens our instruction with prayer and provides a short story or history as an introduction to our lesson. We are presently using the United Methodist Adult Quarterly (International Bible Lessons for Christian Teaching) as our curriculum. Our class follows a lecture format, but there is always opportunity for sharing of ideas and opinions. Bill is always well prepared to teach and we are fortunate to have several in our class who will fill in when necessary. Our class consists of middle age, seniors, singles and couples. We try to get out to eat together once a month. We’d like to invite anyone to join us four our class and/or our socials.
Fellowship Class
The Fellowship Class meets in the Education Building and consists of the Blalock, Bradley, Helms, Hill, Huggins, Johnson, Meares, Moretz, Rummage, Thompson, Tucker, Medina and Corum families. We are currently using the International Bible Study curriculum, the current focus of which is New Testament living. Our teachers are Todd Rummage and Tim Huggins. We enjoy lively discussions, and are very active in the life of the church especially in the areas of children and youth ministries. Everyone is welcome. Feel free to pull up a chair anytime.
Friendship Class
The Friendship class meets in the Education building of the church. Its members include singles, couples, older and senior adults. Ruby Ballard, Alice Birmingham, Jimmy Huntley, Martha Nelson, Gary and Marjorie Pennigar, Burt and Helen Phifer, Ann Ross, Ryan Stafford, Nancy Stewart, Roy Taylor and Nan West are members of the class. We use a discussion format for the class and everyone participates. As one member suggested, “it get’s lively at times,” as most of the questions are generated by the class members themselves. Our class is active in the life of the church in many different areas such as Meals on Wheels delivery, music ministry and community nurture. Come join us. Everyone is welcome!
Wesley Class
The Wesley Class also meets in the Education building of the church. Our members consist of middle aged and older adults. We are currently studying other Christian denominations using Adam Hamilton’s book “Christianity’s Family Tree, What Other Christians Believe and Why.” During the course of the study we will be looking at Orthodoxy, Catholicism, Lutheranism, Presbyterianism, Anglicanism, Baptist, Pentecostalism and our own, Methodism. Our class follows a discussion format and we enjoy the many different perspectives our members share with one another. Our class is active in the life of the church, especially in the area of Mission and Outreach. We would love to add new faces and families. You are welcome, anytime!
